ORGANIZER  - Job Opening

Environmental Community Action, Inc. (ECO-Action) is a highly 
respected
non-profit grassroots organization that provides organizing 
assistance and
training to communities in Georgia facing threats from toxic 
pollution.
ECO-Action teaches people the skills they need to address their 
own
injustices. Most importantly, ECO-Action focuses its work on people 
who
remain left out of traditional circles of power and influence. ECO-
Action's
statewide office is located in Atlanta. For more info, consult

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Responsibilities of the organizer 
include working
within communities to: conduct workshops and training in all areas 
of
organizational and leadership development; advise local groups on 
organizing
strategies; coordinate advocacy campaign work; provide training in 
research
and working with the media; facilitate meetings; mediate conflicts; 
and
assist in fundraising. Duties also require researching and answering
inquiries about issues and assisting in the writing of publications 
and
training materials. Some evening and weekend work is required. 
Overnight
travel for multiple days in rural areas is required.

QUALIFICATIONS: ECO-Action is seeking a person with a 
demonstrated
commitment to learning issues of social justice. We are seeking a 
person who
has a genuine interest and concern for organizing and working with
grassroots organizations. Working with a senior organizer, the 
successful
candidate must interact with low-wealth or no-wealth residents, 
people of
color and people with limited formal education. Applicants must 
demonstrate
a desire to learn about political power dynamics; must display 
maturity;
have a sense of humor, an ability to develop others and a strong 
work ethic;
possess good writing skills, computer literacy, and excellent 
interpersonal
skills; be able to work cooperatively as part of a small team; and 
exercise
independent judgment. Organizers, teachers and trainers are 
encouraged to ap
ply.  Young people are encouraged to apply.  Environmental-
related
experience is not required. ECO-Action will provide training on 
toxic
pollution issues.

COMPENSATION: Salary commensurate with experience. ECO-
Action offers a
generous vacation and leave package.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE OFFICE MANAGER 
INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
1. Office Management- to manage and maintain the smooth, 
efficient and
professional operation of the office, including the following duties:
--screen and direct telephone inquiries about ECO-Action 
programs;
--provide clerical support for program staff and the Executive 
Director;
--maintain filing systems, including grant files, donor and program
databases;
--maintain inventory and work with vendors;
--organize and manage all administrative support systems, 
including computer
system.
2. Organize Meetings --coordinate and organize all logistics of staff 
and
board meetings, trainings and conferences and program-related 
meetings.
3. Grant Monitoring-- organize and maintain all grant files, including
tracking of reporting dates, preparation of supplemental materials, 
etc.
4. Financial Management (budget approx. $300,000) including:
--manage and process employees payroll and process tax reports;
--administer employees benefits;
--handle computerized Quick Books accounts and perform 
bookkeeping duties;
--monitor expenditures and income in relation to budget and 
prepare reports
on financial status.
5. Recruit interns and volunteers.

QUALIFICATIONS:
We are seeking a person with experience in office management 
and
bookkeeping, self-motivated, able to organize own work schedule, 
prioritize
tasks, trouble-shoot, and who is sufficiently self-confident to take
initiative and to accomplish responsibilities without direct 
supervision.
Must be mature, have a sense of humor, be able to work 
cooperatively as part
of a small team, possess strong communication skills, both verbal 
and
written and computer skills. In addition, ECO-Action is seeking a 
person
with a demonstrated commitment to issues of social justice.
