JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
Education Organizer – Mothers on the Move

ORGANIZE THE COMMUNITY CAMPAIGN TO
IMPROVE SOUTH BRONX SCHOOLS!

MOM is hiring an Education Organizer to develop its powerful parent-led
Education Committee to organize for adequate resources and quality teaching
and learning in South Bronx public schools. The organizer will also build
on the successful kick-off of the Parent-Teacher Home Visit Project, which
is a cornerstone of MOM’s Platform for Excellent Schools.

Core Responsibilities:
• Recruit and work one-on-one with community members to develop their
leadership ability
• Build a strong parent committee to research causes of poor school
performance and to strategize and advance effective organizing campaigns for
school improvement at the local and regional level.
• Coodinate the Parent-Teacher Home Visit Project at Fannie Lou Hamer
Freedom Middle and High School with allied parents, students, teachers,
principals, and superintendents and expand the campaign to other schools in
Region 2
• Organize media events, direct actions, large mobilizations, and large
public meetings with school and elected officials as needed in campaigns.

Qualifications:
• Self-starter and ability to work independently and in teams
• Commitment to developing grassroots leadership
• Intentional development of one’s own leadership ability
• Ability to interact with our broad range of allies
• Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills
• Able to work some evenings and weekends
• Experience organizing and passion for justice in the school system
• Spanish speaking and written skills recommended

Salary & Benefits:
• $27K to $32K based on experience

to 5 weeks vacation
