Job Announcement

Position: Union Organizer

Job Description: AFT Michigan is seeking an organizer
to work full-time on a union organizing campaign in
southeast Michigan.  The organizer's job will be to
work with a volunteer worker organizing committee to
recruit union activists, build worker involvement, and
coordinate meetings, events, and publicity.  Job
requires evening and weekend work.  In addition,
candidates can look forward to the following duties:

~    recruiting and training volunteer organizing
committees;
~    advising leadership on campaign strategy;
~    motivating and pushing volunteer leaders to
fulfill commitments;
~    setting an example in organizing skills and in
meeting commitments;
~    maintaining accurate records in a campaign
database.

Education: No minimum requirement

Required Qualifications:
~    strong interest in and commitment to progressive
labor unionism
~    grassroots organizing experience
~    excellent communication, interpersonal, listening,
and motivational
skills
~    self-motivated, responsible, good coordination
capabilities, and
attention to detail
~    demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with
people from diverse
backgrounds
~    computer skills (familiarity with word processing,
desktop
publishing, and database programs  or willingness
to learn)

Preferred Qualifications: two or more years experience
on union recognition campaigns
