Community Renewal Society
Executive Director

Chicago, Illinois

Community Renewal Society (CRS) is an organization rooted in a
faith-based tradition which empowers people to combat racism and the
effects of poverty by providing tools such as objective, investigative
journalism and community organizing and training to congregation
leaders. In recent years, CRS’ efforts led to the passage of statewide
nursing home reform and prescription drug discounts for seniors and
played a significant role in Chicago Public School reforms implemented
under the former Mayor Richard Daley. CRS maintains a strong affiliation
with the United Church of Christ. It employs a staff of nearly 30
including nationally-respected organizers and award-winning journalists,
and operates from a $3.4 million budget. More information can be found
at: www.crs-ucc.org

In early 2012, after 14 years of service, the current Executive Director
will retire. The Board of Directors seeks a new Executive Director to
lead and transform CRS- to inspire, inform and organize a new generation
of people of faith towards social justice in the metropolitan area. A
person of faith, the Executive Director will grow CRS’s social relevance
and develop creative and strategic approaches to engage communities and
congregations. The Executive Director will use a recently completed
strategic plan framework to participate with board members, staff and
external constituents to shape the future vision, mission and structure
of CRS.

The ideal candidate brings a minimum of fifteen years nonprofit
